Vice President Mike Pence visited the USS Hary Truman today to give an address to some of our brave servicemen and women and as is so often the case with this bizarre and embarrassing administration, unflattering reports have already begun to emerge about the trip.

According to Brendan Ponton of WTKR-TV, the sailors were given very strange instructions about how they should welcome the Vice President’s arrival. They were told to “clap like we’re at a strip club.”

The simile is odd because of how obviously inappropriate it is for an official visit from such a high-ranking White House official to be discussed in such a manner, but it’s doubly weird when one considers that Pence is such a creepy religious radical that he refuses to dine or travel alone with any woman who is not his wife. One can only imagine how upset he’d be if he learned that the sailors were clapping for him as if he were an exotic dancer.

Beyond that, it’s telling that the officials in charge of preparing the sailors for Pence’s arrival thought it necessary to encourage clapping, as if the Vice President is so unpopular that they would have not have feigned excitement for him unless expressly directed to do so.

It’s perhaps a seemingly minor thing, but it’s also the sort of thing that Fox News would have lost their collective minds over if it had happened under the Obama administration. Conservatives would have been outraged that our military men and women were being used as props and given such orders. Once again, we see that the Republican have a gross double standard when it comes to how they behave compared to Democrats.
