Trump just tried to act like a constitutional scholar in embarrassing morning Twitter outburst

President Trump tried on a new hat today and everyone had to stifle a laugh.

Donning his constitutional scholar chapeau, Trump fulminated on the founding fathers’ definitions of the acts that were worthy of the impeachment of a president.

The results suggest that — as the Mueller report revealed in all too chilling detail — the president needs to spend less time trying to alter the perception of reality to his own ends and more time speaking with lawyers who have actually studied the Constitution.

As the tweet Trump sent this morning demonstrates, the president could also benefit from some courses in logic, ethics, and proper English composition, as well as a large dose of truth serum.

Starting with a false premise as clearly discerned by anyone who has read even the redacted version of the Special Counsel’s magnum opus  — “This is the end of my presidency, I’m fucked!” — Trump continues to obstruct justice by outrageously claiming that he was found to have been cleared of obstruction and by mischaracterizing the requirements for impeachment.

Using Trump’s logic, anyone accused of a crime with substantial witness testimony confirming the criminal behavior can avoid prosecution by simply denying the truth of the accusations.

The president’s penchant for projection — accusing others of that which he himself is guilty — is on full display in his attempt to blame Democrats for an improper investigation, one which has resulted in the indictments of 34 individuals and three Russian businesses on charges ranging from computer hacking to conspiracy and financial crimes, seven guilty pleas and four people sentenced to prison.

It seems that there are more witches out there than President Trump realizes.

Turning the tables requires an enormous amount of spin, but the friction provided by the truth as revealed in the Mueller report should prevent the tables from budging.

Trump’s tweet belies the comments he made yesterday at the White House when he claimed to be “not even a little bit” worried about impeachment — a laughable statement given his multiple subsequent tweets on the topic both before and after his comments.

With plenty of evidence of exactly the types of high crimes and misdemeanors that far exceed the impeachable levels that were applied to President Clinton, impeachment at this point is a mere political calculation for Democrats, some of whom are leery of missteps that may help Trump’s re-election by energizing his base.

For progressive Democrats and for anyone who believes that principles and the rule of law are at stake, It is imperative to push hard and convince Congressional Democratic leadership that a failure to hold President Trump accountable for crimes that the Justice Department says may only be addressed through the impeachment process would be unconscionable.

While it would be acceptable to gather further evidence of the president’s obstruction of justice and publicize it to gain more widespread public support to ensure the success of any impeachment effort, a failure to move quickly towards that goal would only further enable Trump’s blatant misuse of his office and erode the rule of equal responsibilities under the law.
