Even with large sections of it redacted and blacked out, the Mueller report is still incredibly damaging to Trump’s presidency. On top of the damning revelation that the president sought to obstruct justice on numerous occasions, the report paints a picture of an incompetent administration in total disarray.
One particular nugget that surprised exactly no one and yet was still gratifying to see spelled out in black and white was that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders intentionally lied to the American people. Again, the fact that she is a serial liar serving a historically mendacious president is hardly an earth-shattering piece of news, but it does make a strong case for her immediate resignation.
“In the afternoon of May 10, 2017, deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders spoke to the President about his decision to fire Comey and then spoke to reporters in a televised press conference…Sanders said, ‘Look, we’ve heard from countless members of the FBI that say very different things’…Sanders told this Office that her reference to hearing from ‘countless members of the FBI’ was a ‘slip of the tongue. She also recalled that her statement in a separate press interview that rank-and-file FBI agents had lost confidence in Comey was a comment she made ‘in the heat of the moment’ that was not founded on anything,”” reads the report.

Now, Morning Joe‘s Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, former friends of Donald Trump, are calling for action in response to Sanders’s dishonesty. Brzezinski said that the media should boycott covering Trump administration officials “who repeatedly lie.” She singled out Sanders as a particularly egregious offender. Scarborough threw his support behind the idea.
“I don’t understand why anybody would have Sarah Sanders on if they know that she is going to lie, Kellyanne Conway if they know that they are going to lie,” said Scarborough. He said that reporters have to stop giving air time to White House officials who “deliberately lie” which would encompass just about everyone currently employed by the Trump administration.
“If [Sanders] won’t step down, we need to step up,” he added, in what can only be seen as an implicit call for her resignation.
