Trump just made a ridiculous boast about his presidency that has Twitter rolling with laughter

Donald Trump did not have a good week and this morning he took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, taking aim at The Washington Post and lobbing harebrained threats at Mexico. Apparently, the unhinged tweetstorm wasn’t enough to calm his rattled nerves though, as he has now penned another furious tweet, this time targeting the entire free press.

In a laughably absurd turn of phrase, he referred to the “magnificence” of his inane campaign phrase “Make America Great Again” and accused the press of doing “everything within their power” to fight said “magnificence.”

There are a lot of ways to describe MAGA, but “magnificent” is certainly not one of them.

Trump then dished up a whopper of a claim with the absolutely bonkers statement that his administration has accomplished more than “virtually any other administration” in its first two years. He followed up the ridiculous lie by saying “They are truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.”

While he clearly meant the free press (which he abhors) the way he structured his syntax makes it seem like the antecedent for “they” is “administration.” In other words, he accidentally said that his administration is the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, a mistake as funny as it is accurate.

As embarrassingly ridiculous as the tweet is, at the same time it’s also deadly serious. We have grown used to it by now, but it is not normal for a president to attack the free press in this fashion. It undermines one of the cornerstones of our democracy and smacks of authoritarianism. Even if it gets tedious, we must condemn these attacks whenever he trots them out.

The tweet received a ton of mocking responses, with many users taking aim at his ludicrous boast about his accomplishments. In reality, the only thing Trump has really “accomplished” in his first two years is starting a disastrous trade war with China and passing a plutocratic tax bill that skyrocketed the deficit and shoveled enormous amounts of money to the super-rich.

Twitter let him have it:
