While Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has officially ended with his submission of his report to the Department of Justice, President Trump’s woes are only just beginning. Until the full report is released we are forced to rely solely on Attorney General William Barr’s brief summary, a dubious situation given the fact that he was hand-picked by Trump himself. While Democrats push to make the full report public, they’re also attacking the president’s incredibly corrupt administration on other fronts.
Politico reports that the House Oversight and Reform Committee is now pushing to get its hands on an entire decade of Trump’s financial records. The Democratically-controlled committee has asked accounting firm Mazars USA for the relevant documents, with a particular interest in Trump’s previous efforts to bid on purchasing the Buffalo Bills NFL team. Previously, Trump’s longtime attorney turned enemy Michael Cohen testified before Congress that Trump lied about his net worth to help him in his pursuit of acquiring the team.

The news was revealed by Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Mark Meadows (R-NC), who are clearly concerned about what the documents might reveal about the odious leader of their party. They sent a letter to the committee chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) in which they whined that the documents request oversteps the committee’s duties and that it isn’t part of providing “legitimate oversight.” They also sent a letter to the CEO of Mazars USA.
The Republican partisans fear that the documents request is intended to “embarrass President Trump.” But if Trump has nothing to hide, how could this probe possibly embarrass him? The fact that they are so worried about Democrats getting the documents in question indicates that there’s something rotten at the heart of this issue.
Understandably, Cummings swatted away the concerns.

“If they had their way, the committee would just close up shop for the next two years, but that is not what the American people elected us to do. We are following up on specific allegations regarding the president’s actions based on corroborating documents obtained by the committee, and we will continue our efforts to conduct credible, robust, and independent oversight,” said Cummings.
Cummings went on to tell Politico that Jordan and Meadows “complain about every single thing” he does and that the Democrats only objective with this document request is to get to the truth about President Trump. He realizes the Republicans have no interest in the truth and so he is determined to barrel past their objections. With Cummings at the wheel, the American people are in incredibly capable hands.
