Trump just unleashed a crazed three-part Twitter attack on the Mueller investigation

Donald Trump’s desperation to derail Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation took on a distinctly pathetic and unhinged hue this morning when he let loose with a lengthy, conspiratorial Twitter rant. He did not sound like an innocent man.

The president ran through a hodgepodge of his favorite conspiracy theories, starting with the nonsense idea that everyone involved in Mueller’s appointment was aware that there were “zero” crimes committed when the probe began but proceeded anyway. Of course, the reality is that there were numerous crimes, as proven by the slew of indictments and convictions that Mueller’s investigation has already yielded and the smart bet is that there are plenty more that simply haven’t been uncovered yet.

Trump repeated his usual lines about the Steele Dossier (which has also been validated in large parts already) and took a shot at former Acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe. He even dug into his old bag of tricks and trotted out the “Crooked Hillary” nickname that was a mainstay of his presidential campaign.

Trump wasn’t done there and went on to make the stunning claim that the Mueller Report shouldn’t even exist at all, a clear sign that he is deeply worried about its contents. He called the investigation “illegal” which is just false at face value and trotted out his favorite misinformation bit about the probe: that it was a partisan move by Democrats angry over their 2016 electoral loss.

Again, the president is lying. Mueller — who is himself a Republican — was appointed by Trump’s own Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The Special Counsel has bipartisan support and has conducted himself honorably and firmly within the bounds of the law.

Trump ended his Twitter outburst by switching to all caps and screaming that such an investigation should never happen again. For once, he is right. An investigation like this should never happen again, but not because the probe itself is illegal or immoral but because this country should learn its lesson and never elect a man like this to the presidency ever again. If we don’t elect a crook, we won’t need someone to investigate his crimes.
