The NY Attorney General just took bold action to make sure Trump can’t save Manafort with pardon

The State of New York indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on an additional sixteen crimes for mortgage fraud and a slew of other serious felonies just hours after the beleaguered con artist and Republican political operative was sentenced to another three and a half years in prison for conspiracy in a Washington District Court, bringing his total to 7.5 years.

The New York Times reports that the latest slew of indictments by New York District Attorney Cyrus Vance are specifically to ensure that Manafort will face prison time for his crimes in the event that President Trump decides to hand down a presidential pardon to his former lieutenant, which do not apply to state crimes.

“No one is beyond the law in New York” said Vance, who notoriously dropped charges against Ivanka Trump and Don Jr. after receiving a mysterious $50,000 donation from Trump’s lawyer.

But it appears Vance is aware of how many eyes are on him and is eager to shed his past as a Trump enabler by bringing the hammer down on Manafort, who absolutely deserves it.

A few weeks ago, Judge T.S. Ellis sentenced former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort to a meager 47 months in prison for a laundry list of crimes, including money laundering, tax evasion, and defrauding banks.

That 47 months ballooned by another 73 months after this morning’s sentencing, but President Trump has been dangling the prospect of a pardon over Manafort’s head for months now and almost certainly will deliver it if Trump feels like it will help save his skin.

It is refreshing to see the justice system going out of its way to make sure that a rich white man will see punishment for decades of criminality; few deserve it more than Manafort.

Manafort spent his entire career serving the whims of murderous right-wing dictators, the lobbying firm he ran with Roger Stone known as the “torturer’s lobby” for its despicable clientele. His children were so disgusted that they routinely referred to their family fortune as “blood money.”

Later, he would lobby on behalf of Russia’s puppet government in Ukraine and worked to “advance the interests” of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin before working to ensure that Donald Trump somehow won the presidency of the United States.

He has a lot of answer for, and there’s no small degree of satisfaction to know that this time, his goose is fully cooked and no billionaire benefactor is going to swoop in to save his bacon this time.
