A reporter just dunked on Donald Trump Jr. after he tried to smear Mueller probe witness

Donald Trump Jr. is known for a lot of things — his embarrassing obsequiousness towards his criminal father, his nauseating self-righteous grandstanding, his role in possible collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election — but of all the things he has a reputation for, towering intellect is not one of them.

Hardly a day passes without the president’s eldest son unintentionally embarrassing himself in some new idiotic fashion. He is a man who has a national platform not because of any merits of his own, but because of the steady stream of nepotism dripping out of his father’s Oval Office.

Yesterday, Don Jr. took to Twitter in his latest doomed attempt to conduct damage control for his father’s crumbling administration. He attacked Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence officer who compiled the now-infamous dossier which, among other things, alleges the existence of a tape depicting Donald Trump engaged in urine-based sexual activities with Russian prostitutes. While that particular salacious element hasn’t been proven or disproven, much of the dossier has since been verified with supporting evidence.

President Trump’s son shared an article from an online publication called “Zero Hedge,”  a site that has (not surprisingly) been associated with both the alt-right and pro-Russia sentiments in the past. The clearly misleading title was “Spooked? Christopher Steele Cancels Appearance After Cohen Testimony Destroys Dossier Allegation.”

Of course, anyone who watched the Cohen testimony saw that Donald Trump’s former attorney unleashed a flurry of damning accusations against the president, but did nothing to truly “destroy” the Steele dossier.

As we have seen him do so many times before, Donald Trump Jr. is simply spreading misinformation. Furthermore, the obsession with Steel and his dossier exhibited by President Trump and his inner circle seems to indicate a deep fear about its contents that wouldn’t make sense if all of the details within were fabricated.

Today, Natasha Bertrand of The Atlantic torched Don Jr. for his embarrassing tweet. She explained just how wrong he was by pointing out that Steele was never slated to give testimony and that he has already submitted written testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee. On top of that, Steele has already told Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team what he knows.

In other words, Steele has shown himself to be far from “spooked” and Donald Jr.’s attempt to paint him as such is at best a moronic mistake and at worst an intentional lie.

Donald Trump Jr. should stop sniffing around fringe websites. As long as there are reputable reporters waiting diligently in the wings to debunk him all he succeeds in doing by sharing such clearly biased, unreliable articles is humiliating himself. It may be something he’s used at this point in his long life of failing upward, but it’s unbecoming of a First Son.
