As Republican defenders of President Trump on the House Oversight Committee try to discredit former Trump attorney Michael Cohen during his testimony, they have spent most of their time attacking the former Trump Organization fixer’s believability by raising issues about his past behavior and previous false testimony to Congress.

Cohen himself noted the GOP sycophants’ strategy and hit back with a piercing observation while being grilled by the ranking Republican on the Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) — the congressman most known for his failure to notify authorities about the sexual abuse of college wrestlers while he was an assistant coach at Ohio State University.

Indeed, it was obvious from their lines of questioning that the GOP members of the committee that they had no intention of doing anything except to malign Michael Cohen’s character and undermine his credibility as he revealed damaging information about the criminal behavior by the president.

Cohen’s point was reinforced by former New Jersey Governor and former Trump transition team leader Chris Christie in an appearance on ABC News. Christie pointed out that none of the Republicans had actually addressed any of the substance of Cohen’s accusations against the president and that could indicate trouble ahead for Trump.

Democrats more than made up for their Republican colleagues’ lack of interest in Cohen’s revelations by questioning the former attorney in detail. With the hearing still in session, expect more revelations as the day progresses.
