The Army Corps of Engineers just humiliated Trump by exposing his newest border wall con

Donald Trump was brutally humiliated by the Democrats during the recent government funding negotiations. His disastrous shutdown failed to get him the concessions he wanted, and he was forced to settle for some measly “border security” funding rather than the billions and billions he wanted for his pet border wall. With this latest defeat, it seems more and more likely that his vanity project will never see the light of day, meaning he will fail to deliver on his signature campaign promise.

Of course, Trump can’t admit that basic fact to his rabid, xenophobic fans, especially when he’s insisted time and again that the wall is coming and staked his entire reputation on it. Recognizing this, and denied the legitimate means to fund the wall by Congress, Trump went ahead and manufactured a phony crisis by declaring a national emergency.

Now, in his pathetic bid to assure the MAGA crowd that he is, in fact, a success instead of the abject failure he so clearly has become, he’s taken to Twitter to share a video that he claims shows his wall being constructed. Unfortunately for Trump, his lie — which is exactly what the tweet was — was quickly exposed.

Task & Purpose reports that the video doesn’t show Trump’s wall being built right now. The Army Corps of Engineers revealed that it’s a clip from September 2018 and isn’t new construction at all, but rather the replacement of existing barriers.

“It’s a replacement project. I’ve been in this division for 12 years and we were doing border wall replacement work back then,” Mike Peterson, the Public Affairs Director for the Army Corps of Engineers’ South Pacific Division said to Task & Purpose.

The footage simply shows a portion of border barriers being upgraded. Task & Purpose additionally reports that USACE officials were displeased with Trump’s misleading tweet, which is unfortunately just par for the course from a president who cares little about government employees or the work they do.

To him, our hardworking public servants are just pawns to be lied about exploited in his incessant game of petty politicking. He owes them and the American people an apology that we will never receive.
