Earlier today, President Trump went full authoritarian and announced a state of emergency in order to divert funds to his xenophobic border wall project. The absurd decision was made in response to the Democratically controlled House of Representatives refusing to give him anything beyond some minor funding for “border security,” that is to say, not the big beautiful wall he promised Mexico would pay for.

It’s a stunning overreach of executive powers and dispels once and for all the myth that the GOP is the party of “small government.” Trump has shown that he has no respect for our democratic institutions or the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution and the apathy displayed by Republican leaders over the issue is unforgivable.

The usual sycophants are already lining up to praise the president’s banana republic maneuvering, including that most pathetic Trumpist, his son Donald Jr. Always painfully eager for his father’s attention, junior took to Twitter to share an inane meme comparing Obamacare to the wall. Erroneously, it claims that the country wasn’t given a “choice” over Obamacare, a blatant lie given the reality that the Affordable Care Act was passed in Congress.
The wall, on the other hand, is such a terrible idea that Trump was unable to convince Congress to waste money on it. The man who touts himself as one of the greatest dealmakers in the world is so terrible at negotiating that he is now forcing a constitutional crisis to get what he wants and appease his xenophobic supporters,
President Obama cherished our democracy, Trump sees it as an obstacle to his personal objectives.

Immediately after sending out his deeply misleading tweet, Trump Jr. was bombarded with mockery and people pointing out the huge difference between Obamacare and the national emergency over the wall. For some reason, Trump Jr. hasn’t deleted the tweet, so now it stands as a monument to his staggering ignorance. Well done Donny, well done.
Right, I remember how Democrats couldn't pass Obamacare for two years despite holding Congress and the White House, and then Obama campaigned hard on it in 2010 and the Dems lost big again, and so he declared a national emergency to get it done.
Very smart tweet, thank you.

You mean the Obamacare that passed through Congress while your dad is calling a National Emergency for 50 miles of wall?
You are a stupid human being. Like really stupid. How are you able to get dressed by yourself?

It passed both houses of Congress and was signed into law by the President. I would say you need to study up on your civics, but given your impending indictment you probably need to focus on learning how the criminal justice system works instead.

1) you are so wrong and have shown over and over again you don’t understand how the government works whatsoever. ACA was made into law through Congress!
2)WHY WOULD YOU PUT KERMIT THROUGH THIS???? What did he do to deserve this????— Alp Ozcelik (@alplicable) February 15, 2019
