It is with enormous resignation and disgust that we are once again faced with the fact that the President of the United States of America is such an unrepentant and insecure narcissist that three years into his presidency, he still insists on lying about the size of the crowds at his rallies.
Last night, Donald Trump held one of his signature rallies in El Paso, Texas, where he embarked on his usual incoherent stream-of-consciousness ranting about the dangers of socialism and the imaginary immigration crisis and of course, the size of the crowd at the El Paso County Coliseum.
The president wavered wildly in his estimations of the size of the crowd and seemed very pre-occupied with the crowd size of the rival speech being given by Democrat Beto O’Rourke. To make up for it, he asserted that the fire department had allowed him to violate fire codes and permitted more people than the arena could safely hold to enter.

“There has never been anything like this in the history of our country…If you would say, as an example, that tonight 69,000 people signed up to be here. Now the arena holds 8,000. And thank you, Fire Department. They got in about 10,000. Thank you, Fire Department. Appreciate it” rambled Trump.
Of course, the El Paso fire department did no such thing.
Speaking to the El Paso Times, fire public information officer Enrique D Aguilar said “no special permission was given by the Fire Department, and the Coliseum had about 6,500 people in it during the president’s rally — at capacity, but well within its standard allowance.”
He went on to add that “‘it might be 10,000 with the people outside’ total, but the Fire Department did not track the number of people outside. The Coliseum was full at about 4 p.m., and thousands watched the president’s speech on big screens outside.”
Once again, an official department has to correct the president and publicly dispel the lies whose only purpose was to boost the president’s perpetually vulnerable ego. As he signals his displeasure with the deal that Congress has struck to keep the government open, it’s clear that his ego is once again about to plunge the nation into political chaos — and that these endless battles over crowd size are just a symptom of the disease that grips the rapidly decaying brain of the President of the United States of America.
