Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has rocketed in a very short time from a complete unknown to one of the most prominent members of the Democratic Party and as such, one of the favorite targets of the right-wing media smear machine. Republicans are terrified of her because her enthusiasm for progressive policies and obvious dedication to serving her constituents instead of special interests stands in stark contrast to the corrupt, plutocratic objectives of the GOP.
Conservatives attack AOC every time she says or does something, and often when she doesn’t. They’re obsessed with her but their constant coverage has succeeded only in raising her national platform and helping her accumulate even more power and influence. She, in turn, has demonstrated an unparalleled ability to completely destroy their arguments and attacks with substance and wit time and time again. They’re simply no match for her.
This morning, Fox & Friends, the trashy and inane talk show so beloved by President Trump went after Ocasio-Cortez in a deeply cynical and cruel fashion: by bringing up the shooting death of a man in her district, going so far as to air a disturbing clip of the man’s death. They used it as an excuse to smear AOC’s policies and tout the necessity of ICE because the alleged killer was an undocumented immigrant and member of MS-13.

"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, after I imagine seeing this horror, is upset that ICE even exists. She cried about it."

Now, Ocasio-Cortez has responded perfectly on Twitter.
“Unlike these people, I actually care about my community,” she began, once again showing her willingness to speak bluntly in a way most politicians would shy away from. She said that the tragic death happened close to her old campaign office and that her team has been monitoring the story for updates.
Then, instead of accepting their bad faith defense of ICE, a vile agency, she pointed out that this shooting has no bearing on the fact that ICE is detaining children, activists and more recently, the rapper 21 Savage. In other words, one crime committed by an undocumented immigrant in no way justifies the existence of the brutal, cryptofascist government organization.
AOC does not back down.
Unlike these people, I actually care about my community. This happened across my old campaign office.
We’ve been monitoring this heartbreaking situation and have been working with the community to heal.
Meanwhile, ICE is detaining children, political activists & 21 Savage. https://t.co/hCMdrFEwdF
