Trump just threw stones at Virginia Democrats from his glass house of racism

The Virginia Democratic party is reeling from a series of scandals. First, a photograph of the sitting Governor Ralph Northam in blackface with a man dressed in a KKK costume was discovered in his old yearbook. As calls for his resignation mounted, Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax, the heir-apparent to Northam’s seat was pulled into a scandal of his own when a woman accused him of sexual misconduct.

Not long after, the state’s Attorney General Mark R. Harring came forward and confessed that he dressed in a blackface costume as a young man. With the future of three of its top officials uncertain, Virginia’s Democratic Party is in a bleak position.

Of course, Republicans are absolutely thrilled by the fiasco, because for once it’s not their party getting slammed for racism. That said, the inexcusable behavior displayed by these Democrats doesn’t negate the fact that the GOP is positively teeming with neo-nazis, white supremacist, and sexual predators.

Now, the grand wizard of the GOP himself, President Trump, has decided to wade into the Virginia conversation. He took to Twitter to blame the Democrats at the top for “killing the Great State of Virginia” and made the absurd claim that “far stronger action” would have been taken against the embattled officials if they were Republicans.

Ignoring the obvious hypocrite of a racist and self-admitted sexual predator lecturing others on those issues, the idea that the GOP is tough on its own is a blatant lie. Trump himself endorsed an accused pedophile from Alabama for Senate and still refuses to take a stand against the white nationalists in his party. Republicans close ranks around even their most vile members.

The final bit of his tweet, that 2020 will see Virginia turning Republican is a pipe dream. Trump’s presidency is in shambles, the country has no faith in him to lead, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller is closing in. Trump’s administration will need a miracle to even survive until 2020.

Something needs to be done about Virginia’s Democratic leadership to be sure, but Trump has no right to take any part in the conversation.
