New Mexico’s Governor just openly defied Trump over the border wall and trolled him with epic video

President Trump delivered his State of the Union Address last night and as expected it was an unmitigated mess. When he wasn’t boasting about his own nonexistent fearmongering or calling for the sort of bipartisan compromise that he has repeatedly shown himself to be in uninterested and incapable of obtaining, he was fearmongering about illegal immigration and calling for his pointless, never-going-to-happen border wall.

Now, it turns out that at least one border state is far from impressed with Trump’s border campaign. AP reports that Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) has ordered most of the states National Guard troops to withdraw from the Mexican border, in direct opposition to the president’s stated wishes. The announcement was made last night, right before the State of the Union, in what could be interpreted as a deliberate (and if so, commendable) attempt to steal Trump’s thunder.

“New Mexico will not take part in the president’s charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops,” Grisham said in a statement.

Grisham is undoing a move made by her Republican predecessor, who obeyed Trump’s wishes and sent National Guard troops to the border. 118 were still stationed there as of the withdrawal announcement. In addition to New Mexico’s National Guard, Grisham also directed troops from six other states to pull back from the New Mexico border.

Some National Guardsmen and women, roughly a dozen, will remain along the southwestern portion of the budget, but to help with some dire humanitarian situations, not to partake in Trump’s xenophobic charade.

“I recognize and appreciate the legitimate concerns of residents and officials in southwestern New Mexico, particularly Hidalgo County, who have asked for our assistance, as migrants and asylum-seekers continue to appear at their doorstep,” Grisham explained.

In case her statement and orders weren’t enough to show how little she thinks of our atrocious president, Grisham also released a video in which she discusses how her state needs to “bust through some walls” to improve itself. As she walks the viewer through her goals, she literally crashes through walls, before finally ending up in front of one on which hangs a portrait of Trump.

“And here’s what I think of Trump’s wall,” Grisham says, before smashing through the wall and his face.

Message received Governor, message received loud and clear.
