An Attorney General just slapped Trump with an Emoluments Clause subpoena

Donald Trump’s business career is little more than a series of interlocking crimes and layered scams. He’s made a living ripping off innocent people, declaring bankruptcy, then moving on and repeating the whole sordid process over and over again. The great irony of his presidency is that it has brought a level of scrutiny that he would have otherwise avoided had he simply stayed out of politics. He’s a big target now and will remain so until he inevitably goes down for one his countless crimes.

Now, Trump has one more reason to worry. The Times of London reports that prosecutors in Maryland have subpoenaed financial documents related to Trump’s golf courses in Scotland in the latest legal salvo against our blatantly corrupt leader.

Investigators are focusing on DJT Holdings LLC, the organization through which Trump owns Trump Turnberry in the UK as well as the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. to determine if he has violated the Emoluments Clause of the constitution, which prohibits the president from taking payments from foreign governments. It’s not the first investigation to go after Trump over emoluments but it will certainly add to his rapidly growing list of legal woes.

“We are confident that at the end of discovery we will be able to prove our case that President Trump is violating the constitution’s emoluments clauses, America’s first anti-corruption laws,” Maryland’s Attorney General Brian Frosh said to the Times.

Today’s news comes after Friday’s revelation that Deutsche Bank — the institution which bankrolled Trump’s harebrained endeavors after most other banks ceased doing business with him — decided against giving him a loan to fund Trump Turnberry, calling into question how exactly he was able to afford it and raising speculation that foreign entities may have helped pay for it.

A spokesperson for the Trump Organization insisted to the New York Times that the Turnberry wasn’t funded in a shady fashion and that the Trump Organization pumped tens of millions of its own dollars into it.

The Times of London also reports that Glenn Simpson, the head of Fusion GPS, suggested that there could Russian sources behind the funding for Trump’s golf courses testified to the House Intelligence Committee

Simpson said the accounts don’t obviously show Russian involvement at face value but they do show “enormous amounts of capital flowing into these projects from unknown sources.”

Hopefully, this new subpoena attack will uncover more of Trump’s criminality, and in doing so help further pave the road for the impeachment. There is a crook in the White House and he has to go.
