Trump just came up with a bizarre rhyme to push his border wall like an evil Dr. Seuss

The longest government shutdown in American history drags on, and President Trump is no closer to securing funding for his xenophobic border wall than when it began. Democrats have all the leverage, and the longer the shutdown lasts, the more support Trump hemorrhages due to his stubbornness.

The president is holding hundreds of thousands of federal workers hostage in the hopes of getting money for a wasteful barrier that the majority of Americans don’t even want in the first place. It’s an act of pure vanity on his part, as well as a pathetically transparent attempt to pander to the worst elements of his base.

This morning, as the sun rose over a nation without a functioning government or the crucial services that such a thing provides, Trump took to Twitter to try a new strategy for selling his wall to the American people…in rhyme form.

“BUILD A WALL & CRIME WILL FALL!”  Trump proclaimed in all caps, before explaining that the ludicrous slogan is his “new theme” that he will be pushing for the next two years until the wall is completed.

He erroneously insisted that it’s already under construction, this despite the fact that Congress has not given him money to build it. He urged his followers to use the new advertising rhyme and to “pray” over it.

Beyond the absurdity of Trump’s new line, it’s also just patently untrue. Undocumented immigrants actually commit less crime than native-born Americans. As usual, Trump is lying for political gain. Building a wall will not, in fact, cause crime to fall, but it will please his voters who hate the idea of more people of color entering the country. The rhyme is funny at face value, but its steeped in disgusting racist sentiment.

Shortly after the first tweet, he penned another, this containing only the inane catchphrase, just in case his followers missed the first ludicrous message. This man is clearly unserious, unfit for the responsibilities bestowed on him, and cannot remain president. He must be voted out.
