Last night, the nation was rocked by the unexpected but frankly unsurprising news that President Trump directed his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress about his plans to build Trump Tower Moscow, the penthouse of which was reportedly planned to be given as a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Emails and text messages also appear to implicate the president’s children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., in the Trump Tower Moscow negotiations.

The president and his family quickly issued a series of suspiciously worded responses; Ivanka Trump’s denial, in particular, raised eyebrows for its carefully worded non-denial that did not explicitly say that the allegations were false.
The View’s co-host Sunny Hostin took aim at the First Daughter and dismantled her excuses on live television, making it clear to millions of viewers what Ivanka was really saying between the lines:
“What struck me as interesting is Ivanka Trump’s very carefully worded statement which, in my view, wasn’t necessarily a denial. She said through one of her spokespeople, ‘Ms. Trump did not know about this proposal until after a non-binding letter of intent had been signed, never talked to anyone outside the organization about the proposal, never visited the project site and was only minimally involved.’
That says to me, so you were kind of involved, but only minimally. You didn’t go to the site, but you knew about the site, and you found out about the proposal, but only after a letter of intent had been signed. So that kind of told me, well then, you just kind of confirmed that the BuzzFeed story is kind of accurate, right?”
It is indeed VERY telling that both the responses from the White House and Ivanka Trump did not actually deny the report from Buzzfeed, meaning that there is at least some modicum of truth to the serious allegations — which means there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel after all.
While it’s hard to figure out what the implications for Ivanka and Don Jr. at this point — who already has a whole different set of Trump Tower lies to deal with — this is definitely an impeachable offense for the president. And if we know anything about the Trump family and their businesses, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
