James Comey just responded to Trump’s insulting attack with a classy, powerful response

President Trump may have fired former FBI Director James Comey over a year and a half ago, but the straight-laced lawman has never stopped haunting the president’s mind in the intervening months as the investigation into the president’s collusion with Russia and his obstruction of justice in trying to prevent that investigation has continued relentlessly.

After The New York Times revealed last night that FBI officials were so concerned about Trump’s behavior in the aftermath of Comey’s firing that they secretly began an investigation into whether the president was actually a Russia agent actively undermining American interests, Trump blasted a series of enraged tweets attacking Comey for the umpteenth time, portraying the veteran law enforcement official in the kind of slanderous terms that are more accurately interpreted as self-descriptive of the notoriously untruthful president.

Calling the respected former FBI director “Lyin’ James Comey, Trump described him as “a total sleaze!” before dedicating two entire tweets to the most defamatory accusations the president has ever made towards the earliest antagonist of his presidency.

While Trump’s grandiose characterization of his Comey canning as a “great day for America” and the sobriquet of “Crooked Cop” that he gave to the ex-FBI leader may have been aimed at disturbing Comey’s normally placid demeanor, the president’s slings and arrows did little to upset a man who is by now quite used to the malicious assaults with which Trump has been attempting to destroy his reputation.

Comey replied obliquely on Twitter to Trump’s brazen mischaracterization of his FBI tenure with a simple zen-like quote from a president who actually managed to accomplish a tremendous amount for our nation in an equally perilous time, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The former FBI Director’s obvious pride in being the nemesis of a morally bankrupt and seemingly traitorous president is an emotion he wears like a badge of honor.

When Trump’s inevitable downfall finally comes and he is forced to face the justice that he deserves, America should award James Comey an actual badge of honor for being among the first government officials to see through the president’s epic con job and begin the probe that exposed hs treachery for all to see.
