With the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives yesterday and the ascension of Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to the Speakership, the enemies of Donald Trump have seized the power to meaningfully oppose his cruel agenda for the first time since he slithered into the Oval Office two years ago.
Democrats now have broad subpoena power to investigate the myriad ways Trump has corrupted the Executive Branch as well as his decades of flagrant criminality. The new Democratic majority also means that if and when evidence of serious misdoings emerges, impeachment — at least in the House — is far more viable than it was previously.
This last point, in particular, seems to have lodged itself deep inside the president’s rotting, senile brain. This morning, what is sure to prove to be spiraling paranoia manifested itself on Trump’s Twitter page. After launching a weak attack at Democrats and a tepid attempt to tie them to stock market volatility, he made the claim that Dems only want to impeach him because they don’t think they can beat him in 2020.
In reality, only some 41% of the country approves of the job he’s doing. Reelection is far from guaranteed. On top of that, if Special Counsel Robert Mueller reveals even half of what some expect he will, that number could tank even further.

As I have stated many times, if the Democrats take over the House or Senate, there will be disruption to the Financial Markets. We won the Senate, they won the House. Things will settle down. They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!

Seemingly unable to get his mind off impeachment, Trump tweeted again, asking how anyone could possibly him after he won “perhaps the greatest election of all time.” By what metric he measured such a thing is unclear unless he’s referring to his losing the popular vote by over 3 million votes. He then made the absurd claim that not only did he not collude with Russia, but that it was Democrats who in fact colluded with Putin’s regime.
Trump also repeated one of his favorite lies: that he has had a more successful two years than any other president in history. Of course, the truth is far less flattering, as the only notable thing he has “accomplished” is passing tax cuts that funneled massive amounts of wealth to the super-rich and blew a mile wide hole in the budget deficit. So far his only real legacy is his shredding of the United States’ hard-earned reputation on the world stage.

In the final stretch of the tweet, he bragged about being popular within the Republican Party, which says far more about the purification of the GOP than it does about his actual service as president. The conservative party is beyond saving and the vile, unrepentant man currently sitting at its head is all the proof one needs. Hopefully, Trump’s worst fears come to pass and he is impeached before he can inflict even more damage on this country.
How do you impeach a president who has won perhaps the greatest election of all time, done nothing wrong (no Collusion with Russia, it was the Dems that Colluded), had the most successful first two years of any president, and is the most popular Republican in party history 93%?
