Trump just made a laughably self-pitying tweet about the government shutdown

The United States government has been shut down for over a week now, with no indication that it will be up and running again any time soon. President Trump has dug in his heels and insists that he will not sign any funding bill that doesn’t include a large allocation of funding for his idiotic Mexican border wall.

Despite the fact that his party still controls the executive branch, the Senate, and the House of Representatives at least until the year ends, the failure to strike a deal represents a stunning display of incompetence. Even with full control of the government, the GOP is incapable of keeping it open. They are clearly unfit to lead.

Trump, for his part, seems to realize that he won’t be getting his wall, especially with a Democratic majority in the House looming in 2019. He also knows that if doesn’t get the wall his base will see it as a massive failure on his part. In the hopes of mitigating the impending damage to his support over his inability to deliver his signature campaign promise, he has resorted to his favorite tactic: whining on Twitter.

This morning, Trump penned a particularly petulant message saying that he is “in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come on over and make a deal on Border Security.” The tweet is pathetic even by his subterranean low standards. One can’t help but imagine a scowling Trump sitting in the Oval Office all alone, hunched over his desk waiting for something that is never going to happen.

Trump then trotted out one of his newer self-victimization terms, complaining about so-called “Presidential Harassment,” as if such a thing could exist. The idea that rational pushback against a wasteful, xenophobic, and ultimately pointless wall constitutes some form of harassment is rendered even more absurd when one considers the fact that this is the same man who spearheaded the racist, fabricated myth that our first black president wasn’t born in the United States.

The last bit in the tweet, where he claimed that Democrats are running out of time to “stop crime” and do something about “our military” is another empty attack with no substance behind it. He’s flailing wildly because there are no real options available to him. The unraveling of the United States President continues unabated.
