Ever since she emerged on to the political scene, the conservative media kraken has been absolutely obsessed with Democratic rising star, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Thrilled at having a young woman of color to use as a new boogeyman with which to scare their decaying boomer viewers about the evils of socialism, they’ve gone over her with a fine-tooth comb, looking for anything and everything they could possibly use to turn into red-baiting content.
Much effort has been put into trying to prove that Ocasio-Cortez actually came from a wealthy background and is merely “pretending” to have come from a working-class family, which somehow delegitimizes her democratic socialist platform and her calls for economic, social, and ecological justice.
Conservative author Michael Knowles made the mistake of trying to spread lies about Ocasio-Cortez’s upbringing this afternoon when he responded to a tweet in which Ocasio-Cortez playfully quoted a Jennifer Lopez song to celebrate the minting of her Congressional plaque.
The average household wealth of the town in which you grew up is $1.2 million. https://t.co/4sLCLWfnCb

He then proceeded to insist over and over again that she was the product of wealth and privilege while ignoring the fact that even in the wealthiest of areas there are still people who are less fortunate.

Ocasio-Cortez deftly shot down his smear attack and reminded us all of why she ran for office in the first place — and burned Knowles with a snarky comeback.
Yep. As everyone knows, I grew up between two worlds + experienced 1st hand how a child’s zip code can shape their destiny.
It was scrubbing those households’ toilets w/ my mother that I saw and breathed income inequality.
I decided to make a difference.
You decide to do this. https://t.co/kMtbGQo8o8— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 28, 2018

Undaunted, the hoggish Knowles came back for more, arguing with her defenders and repeating his smears.
Right, but @Ocasio2018 didn’t grow up in a city. She grew up in a small, homogenous, affluent suburb, where she attended excellent schools before pretending she grew up in the Bronx. https://t.co/rLaUCLp3R8

Fed up with his misogynistic disrespect for a young woman of color, Ocasio-Cortez put him to shame with a sharp riposte that quickly took social media by storm.

Racist cop turned GOP talking head John Cardillo tried to come to Knowles’ aid and got immediately smacked down in a similar fashion.

You’re the dude whose immediate reaction to winning my primary was posting a photo of my mom’s house.
Going to public school in Yorktown has *always* been how I told the story of income inequality.
You didn’t even know who I was 7 months ago. You’re not gonna “birther” me now. https://t.co/0MFKVX0eI0

It’s clear that the attention being drawn by a passionate woman — especially one who identifies as a *gasp* socialist — is driving the right-wing absolutely wild, considering their constant efforts to tear her down.
The ease with which she’s shut them down and publicly owned them bodes well for her Congressional career, which is going to involve a lot of condescending mansplaining from both ancient ghouls and young smug chuds alike.
If you come at the queen, you best not miss.
