Trump just launched a toxic attack on the new NY Attorney General in wild guilty conscience rant

Yesterday we witnessed one of those stunning events that would have destroyed a normal presidency but which barely registered as a blip under Donald Trump. The Attorney General of New York announced that the state would be shutting down the Donald J. Trump Foundation due to rampant corruption, citing “a shocking pattern of illegality.”

If we had a president from whom we expected respect for the rule of law, Americans would have been shocked. As it is, most of us have accepted by now that our president is a lifelong crook who has been fleecing innocent people out of their hard-earned money for decades.

Today, rather than do the smart thing and avoid drawing the attention of those who missed yesterday’s story, Trump took to Twitter and unleashed an angry storm about his defunct “charity.” He insisted that it “has done great work” and said that he himself never took “fees, rent, salaries etc.” from it.

Of course, the problem with the foundation wasn’t that Trump was exacting some petty fees from it, it’s that it was repeatedly abused by Trump and his children not only to improperly assist his presidential campaign but for all manner of expenditures, essentially turning it into a piggyback for the Trump family.

President Trump tried to paint the decision to close down the foundation as a political attack on him from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and other Democrats. Trump also went after former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for bringing the lawsuit against him in the first place.

He then took aim at his favorite target, Hillary Clinton, and impugned the reputation of the Clinton Foundation, a well-regarded and esteemed charity organization in stark contrast to Trump’s own charity abomination.

Trump continued his rant by attacking the current acting Attorney General of New York, Barabara Underwood, incorrectly implying that her decision to leave her position in the new year is due to some scandal similar to her predecessor’s rather than a personal choice.

Not content to attack just one AG, he also insulted the incoming Attorney General Letitia James by accusing her of “ranting and raving” against him. James is a woman who Trump is right to fear, since she campaigned for her new office on an anti-Trump criminality platform. She has promised to investigate not only him, but his family as well.

“We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well. We want to investigate anyone in his orbit who has, in fact, violated the law,” James has said.

The president is powerless to stop her, so he’s resorted to screaming into the digital void. The entire tweetstorm is dripping with the kind of pathetic victimhood rhetoric that has defined the Trump presidency, as the man is completely incapable of taking responsibility for his actions even when caught redhanded. It’s truly pathetic, and yet another sign that he is unraveling and must be replaced.
