Yesterday, France was hit by another tragic terror attack when a gunman opened fire at a Christmas market in the city of Strasbourg, killing two people and wounding 14 others. Eight of those wounded are in critical condition and one was he been pronounced brain dead. The 29-year-old murderer, identified by his last name Chekkat, escaped by hijacking a taxi and a search is currently underway to apprehend him.

The horrific incident should be a cause for sentiments of solidarity from France’s closest allies, especially the United States, which is supposedly the world leader in the fight against this kind of ideological violence. But, since America is currently under the leadership of an egomaniacal partisan hack, the message sent across the Atlantic from Washington D.C. ended up being not one of support, but of cruel cynicism.

Donald Trump took to Twitter and addressed the heartbreaking event by simply recognizing that there had been “Another very bad attack in France.” Without offering so much as some paltry condolences, he launched right into exploiting it for his own domestic agenda.

“We are going to strengthen our borders even more. Chuck and Nancy must give us the votes to get additional Border Security!” he wrote in a message that should turn the stomach of anyone with even a scrap of empathy in their bones.

Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron have feuded in the past, and this deeply insensitive tweet is sure to sour their relationship even further.

Presumably, Trump is using this attack to push for his pointless and wasteful border wall because he was so thoroughly humiliated by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) inside the Oval Office yesterday.

It must be mentioned that almost all of the mass shootings and similar violent incidents in the United States in recent years were carried out not by foreign enemies sneaking into our country, but by native-born Americans who had become radicalized. The idiotic border wall has nothing to do with the terror attack in Strasbourg.

Trump should be ashamed, and every American should be ashamed of him.
