The right-wing smear campaign against New York’s Representative-Elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues. Ever since the 29-year-old Democratic socialist won her seat the Republican Party and its myriad media surrogates have been scrambling to paint her as unprepared and uninformed, so terrified are they of a younger generation growing in power that eschews their plutocratic, damaging policies for substantive change.
The latest Trump minion to go after Ocasio-Cortez is Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway. She appeared on Fox News this morning and attacked the freshman Congresswoman over her recent tweet about outgoing White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.
John Kelly was straight up exposed for lying about @RepWilson in comments aimed at discrediting her.
He absolutely owes her an apology, and his refusal to do so isn’t a sign of strength – it’s cowardice. https://t.co/BA40Hgofvk

Ocasio-Cortez was correct, and John Kelly was in fact caught in a blatant lie about Representative Frederica Wilson (D-FL) but refused to take responsibility once video footage proved him wrong. Beyond that, Kelly has utterly degraded himself in service to Trump, helping implement racist and cruel policies that will serve as his primary legacy for the rest of his life.
Of course, Kellyanne Conway, the author of the absurd “alternative facts” phrase has no use for the truth. She said of Kelly:
“He is in his fifth decade of public service, and this country owes him a debt of gratitude, not the nonsense that has been spewed about him even recently from the left, and from this 29-year-old congresswoman who doesn’t seem to know much about anything when you ask her basic concepts about the economy, the Middle East, military funding. Really embarrassing,” Conway said.
The idea of Conway, perhaps the most soulless, opportunistic figure in modern politics attacking anyway for a supposed lack of knowledge is hypocritical to the extreme given the fact that she helped elect the most aggressively ignorant president in American history.
“And for her to even use a slur against him yesterday — I won’t repeat her name or the slur. Let me stand up for Gen. John Kelly. He has done a magnificent job for this country for almost 50 years, including here at the White House as our chief of staff for about a year and a half,” Conway went on.
It doesn’t appear that Ocasio-Cortez used any form of slur against Kelly unless Conway is referring to Ocasio-Cortez’s condemnation of his cowardice. To say nothing of Kelly’s prior military service, his time in this administration has been one nothing but cowardice, as he enabled Trump’s dangerous agenda and failed to stand up against his worst instincts. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t sugarcoat this reality and should be commended for her honesty. Conway, as usual, deserves nothing but scorn.
