The murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi Arabian operatives working under the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and the subsequent lack of any kind of punitive action on the part of the United States will go down as one the of the darkest stains on President Trump’s dirty napkin of a legacy.
Either because he lacks an ounce of anything even vaguely resembling courage, or because of financial entanglements with the theocratic KSA, Trump has deliberately chosen not to hold bin Salman responsible for his butchery. The Republican Party, which is little more than a packed of whipped dogs during the Trump era, has failed to step forward and condemn their leader’s inaction.
Now, Trump’s current favored minion Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has weighed in on the scandal. Speaking to reporters today, Graham said that he sees “zero chance that this happened in such an organized fashion without the Crown Prince.”
He then brought up Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James Mattis, both of whom have given lukewarm comments on the Khashoggi assassination, preferring instead to cast doubt on the fact that the Crown Prince was behind it in the hopes of appeasing their mendacious boss.
Graham said that while he respects both secretaries he imagines “if they were in a Democratic administration I would be all over them for being in the pocket of Saudi Arabia but since I have such respect for them I’m going to assume that they’re being good soldiers and when they look at the analysis they’re being technical in their statement but they’re not giving the assessment that I think the Senate will have.”

The senator went on to say that the reason that the administration has failed to honestly confront the Khashoggi killing is because they don’t want to “go down that road not because there’s not evidence to suggest he’s [Mohammad bin Salman] complicit.”
The craven comments are quintessential Graham, in that he wants to have it both ways. He wants to appear tough and like he has the spine to stand up to the Trump administration but at the same time, he admits that he’d hold Democrats to a much higher standard.

Graham wants to project himself as nonpartisan, but can’t resist the urge to shine a light directly onto his partisan motivations. As usual, he’s shown himself to be nothing more than a bloviating stooge for this corrupt administration. What a joke he’s become.
