Trump just channeled Stalin with an image demanding his enemies be tried for treason

President Trump appears to be having a particularly unhinged day online, even by his remarkably pathetic standards. Perhaps in an effort to boost his own flagging confidence or perhaps to generate attention and controversy to distract from his failing administration, he took to Twitter and retweeted several messages from a sniveling Trump fan account called the “Trump Train.”

The decidedly creepy account is a cesspit of the worst kind of right-wing insanity and in the past has tweeted about some of the most deranged conservative conspiracy theories, including Pizzagate-type allegations that the Democratic Party is secretly a pedophile organization. In short, it’s a perfect distillation of the incredible moral and intellectual rot at the heart of Trumpism.

Amplifying the tweets of anonymous sycophantic internet trolls is nothing new for our egomaniacal leader but one, in particular, is rightfully drawing harsh condemnation.

The President of the United States retweeted a crude meme that reads “Now that Russia collusion is a proven lie, when do the trials begin?” The text is superimposed over a collage of Trump’s most vocal opponents ranging from Barack Obama to the Clintons, to Rober Mueller, to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

It’s the kind of meme you expect from a basement-dwelling paranoic, not the leader of the free world. For starters, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia is the furthest thing from a “proven lie.”

Just yesterday, it was revealed that Trump’s criminal former campaign manager Paul Manafort secretly met with Wikileaks’ Julian Assange, a known puppet of the Russian intelligence apparatus. The revelation is just the latest in a long line of disturbing secrets revealed about the Trump campaign’s behavior in the leadup to the 2016 election. More is sure to still emerge.

Beyond that, it is obviously deeply, deeply unacceptable for a sitting president to call for treason trials against his political opponents. It has the distinct flavor of the kind of politicking done in Third World dictatorships. None of the people depicted in the meme have been accused of anything even approaching treason.

Once again, we see Trump projecting his own guilt onto others. This disgraceful move deserves the harshest condemnation from both the left and the right.
