The Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives is arguably the worst thing to happen to Donald Trump since he was sworn in as president. Now, his enemies not only have the power to stop his cruel legislative agenda dead in its tracks, but they can also issue subpoenas to dig into his murky finances and those of his most corrupt cronies. Finally, the resistance has a fighting chance.

Unfortunately, the magnitude of the Democrats’ victory hasn’t been given its due in part to the fact that many of the results have trickled in slowly since election day. There was a blue wave, but it’s taken a few weeks to really take stock of it. The picture that has emerged since November 6th is deeply unflattering for the GOP and bodes ill for their future electoral prospects.

Today, the Democrats received more good news with the revelation that one of the party’s candidates, Anthony Brindisi, has beat out incumbent Republican Representative Claudia Tenney of New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Tenney has officially conceded the race, notching another upset win for the Democrats in doing so.

This defeat is especially galling for the GOP given the fact that the Trump administration campaigned heavily for Tenney. Trump himself, as well as his children, personally stumped for her. In August, the president visited Utica and raised $650,000 for Tenney, an effort which has luckily proved ultimately pointless. Trump Jr. rallied for her. Ivanka Trump made appearances with her. Eric Trump campaigned for her. All four of them struck out.

In other words, not only is Tenney’s defeat a major win for Democrats, it’s a direct rebuke of the Trump family specifically. Their personal involvement wasn’t enough to reelect Tenney, a clear demonstration that the Trump brand is quickly fading in its appeal to voters. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come and we will soon be rid of the entire incompetent bunch.
