Ocasio-Cortez just torched FOX News for mocking her for not being able to afford D.C. apartment

The centerpiece of the right-wing propaganda machine, FOX News, is notorious for not only its incessant poor-shaming condescension but the casual cruelty that accompanies it.

Their latest target is our nation’s youngest ever-elected Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who recently admitted that she can’t afford an apartment in Washington since she quit her bartending job to run for Congress and won’t begin drawing a Congressional salary until she’s sworn in this January.

The vapid hyenas at FOX did a segment this morning where they mocked the young democratic socialist, who worked as a bartender before running for office, for not being able to afford the sky-high cost of living in D.C.

Dripping with snark and purposefully mispronouncing her name, they could barely contain their glee that the socialist needed money, because in their perverse worldview all socialists are just jealous of the wealthy and not those who strive for a more equal and just society.

Even worse, they insinuated that she had purchased the clothing that she wore for interviews and photoshoots and is now crying poverty after squandering her money, which is not at all how it works.

It’s about what you would expect from FOX, whose fundamental purpose is to defend the status quo and shift the blame for the suffering of the American middle class away from the scheming plutocrats and towards more ideologically convenient scapegoats, like illegal immigrants.

But Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t about to let them get away with their rude dismissal of the very real woes that millions of Americans struggle with every day, taking to Twitter to call them out and set the record straight in a series of defiant tweets.

Nearly half the American people can’t afford to pay rent or buy groceries while the richest Americans have seen their already monstrous wealth balloon as they take more and more of the pie for themselves while leaving the rest of us with crumbs.

That’s why we need leaders like Ocasio-Cortez; young people who actually know what matters to everyday Americans and who actually have their interests at heart.
