NBC host Megyn Kelly just found out the hard way that you shouldn’t — sigh — make casual remarks questioning why it’s not okay to wear blackface anymore.

One would think that would be obvious, given the current political climate of this country, but it seems like the former FOX News propagandist just couldn’t resist giving in to her old habits and dabbling in some holiday race-baiting, and now she’s paying the price.

The Daily Mail reports that Kelly is to be fired from NBC after her staff spoke to human resources and conveyed that they were “disgusted” by her comments and “didn’t like her as a person.”
Network executives were also very displeased with Kelly, whose show has failed to produce the ratings that they had hoped the former FOX darling would bring, bringing in nearly half a million less viewers than it had before Kelly took over.
The final straw, it seems, was her very FOXish anti-political correctness musings about race and Halloween earlier this week:

“What is racist? Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was okay, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.”
Spoiler alert: it’s never okay, and the fact that Kelly thinks that it was okay when she was a kid after growing up in one of the whitest suburbs in the world speaks volumes about why she’s the horrible person she is today.

But of course, it wouldn’t be America if she wasn’t rewarded for her disgusting racism by getting paid all of her $69 million contract all at once before immediately beginning talks to return to FOX News, where barely disguised racism is the name of the game. Unless the network can prove she violated some clause (why would you not include a “no racism” clause in a former FOX host’s contract?), she gets to keep all the money.

But it does represent a humiliating defeat for Kelly, whose efforts to rebrand herself as tame, normal media figure has proven unable to overcome the prejudices that have animated her entire career.
