President Trump’s mind is a weak, slippery thing. Sometimes he manages to laser-focus in on his talking points, usually when they involve racism or blatant lies. Other times he seems barely capable of stringing a sentence together.
By all appearances, the Republican president is an elderly man in the waning days of his mental health, a fact that is made terrifying when one realizes he’s in command of a massive nuclear arsenal capable of destroying the world several times over. This man shouldn’t be trusted to drive a golf cart by himself, let alone wield unparalleled global power.
Today saw just the latest example of Trump’s deteriorating facilities. During a White house opioid crisis event, the president spewed a confused soup of rambling words, then left his podium and attempted to leave.
On his way out, he stopped to shake First Lady Melania’s hand. She steered him away from leaving and reminded him that his entire point for being at the event was to sign the opioid bill, which he had yet to do. Trump then walked over to sign the bill as the room laughed.
This is not the first time that Trump has tried to leave an official event without signing the bill or order that he was there to sign in the first place. Under normal circumstances, such a thing could be chalked up as the simple mistake of a busy mind weighed down by immense responsibilities. But given Trump’s sporadic bouts of incoherence and the fact that he isn’t really doing anything as president, one can’t rule out the likelihood that he’s simply losing his mind. In either case, he is clearly, deeply unfit to lead.
