Legendary Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein warned on CNN yesterday that President Trump has already been discussing ways to claim that results of the midterm elections are fraudulent if the Democrats manage to wrest control of either or both houses of Congress.
“I talked to people … in touch with the White House on Friday who believe that, if the congressional midterms are very close and the Democrats were to win by five or seven seats, that Trump is already talking about how to throw legal challenges into the courts, sow confusion, declare a victory actually, and say that the election’s been illegitimate,” Bernstein cautioned. “That is really under discussion in the White House,” he added.
Trump has already seeded the ground for accusations of illegitimacy on Twitter with warnings against the type of voter fraud that is practically non-existent as opposed to the Republican-engineered campaign of voter suppression that has been disenfranchising thousands of minority voters across the country in states where the GOP controls state governments.
All levels of government and Law Enforcement are watching carefully for VOTER FRAUD, including during EARLY VOTING. Cheat at your own peril. Violators will be subject to maximum penalties, both civil and criminal!

Trump’s attempts at reviving this dead horse of an accusation comes after he was forced to dissolve his much-vaunted commission to investigate voter fraud in the 2016 presidential election, led by notorious vote-suppressor and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, after the group turned up no evidence of fraud whatsoever in a politically fractious and aborted investigation.
Bernstein credited Trump’s incipient scheme to mischaracterize any election results that he’s not happy with to his unprecedented dishonesty and his habitual method of using falsehoods in response to everything that he encounters. He lamented the current situation in which the United States has a president that “uses lying and untruth as a basic method to promote his policies, his beliefs, and his way of approaching the American people and engaging with the world.”
As much as the midterm elections are a litmus test for the reaction of the electorate to the performance and policies of the Trump administration, the president has already disclaimed any responsibility for the outcome of the election, despite his constant holding of Nazi bund-like rallies to support Republican candidates across the red-state landscape.
Ironically, the party constantly espousing “personal responsibility” is lead by a coward who accepts no responsibility or negative response whatsoever for his actions while he constantly seeks nothing but adulation for his every utterance.
Now, the best thing anyone can do is to test the accuracy of Carl Bernstein’s prediction by delivering a massive victory for Democrats in elections all across the country, retaking the majority in both houses of Congress, and then let’s see what Trump has to say after he starts being held accountable by revitalized Democrats in the next Congress. Vote!
