Lindsey Graham just had a Trumpian meltdown about the midterms on live TV

Some people think that Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has crawled so far up President Trump’s butthole in an effort to ensure that he gets the Attorney General’s job once Trump fires Jeff Sessions that he’s reached the area that the president uses to store his simultaneously most potent and most unbelievable lies.

Senator Graham appropriated many of the biggest of Trump’s phony rally shouting points today on Fox News in an interview with Maria Bartiromo, the Fox Business host who has sadly never lived up to the honor of being the title subject of a song by the late Joey Ramone. Graham told the Fox News business muse that Democrats would impose “mob rule” if they won the U.S. House of Representatives in November.

If by “mob rule” Graham is referring to the idea that those who win the majority of votes get to rule, it would be a huge change to the current situation where we have a president elected with a minority of the popular vote and a Senate where Republicans hold a majority despite the fact that 45.2 million Americans cast a vote for a Democratic Senate candidate, while only 39.3 million Americans voted for a Republican.

Most likely, however, Senator Graham was casting aspersions on the ability of the anger-filled majority of Democrats outraged by the corruption, venality, and stupidity of the Trump administration to control their emotions while faced with such unprecedented destruction of the modern American way of life.

Graham tried to paint the upcoming midterm elections, not as a referendum on the horrific performance of the Trump administration, but as a time for a terrified reaction to the fear-mongering lies that the president has been spreading through his rantings at Nazi Bund-like rallies.

“I think people are going to be voting on the mob rule of the Democratic Party,” Graham told Bartiromo. “If you elect Democrats to run the House, you know exactly what you’re going to get. They’re going to try and impeach the president and impeach [Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh].”

“They don’t care about your wallet — they just want to get in your wallet,” he continued. “[Kavanaugh’s confirmation], to me, was a despicable episode in the history of the Senate. These [migrant] caravans will never be stopped by Nancy Pelosi. And when it comes to standing up to the world, you need a strong leader like President Trump.”

That a Republican who helped give the vast majority of the tax cuts they passed to the already wealthy while leaving a smidgen for the rest of the populace, and who are trying to destroy the American healthcare system by reinstating the ability for insurance companies to refuse to cover people with pre-existing conditions is accusing Democrats of trying to get into the wallets that the Republicans have already looted is laughable.

Explaining that Trump has charged him with campaigning for Republicans in 13 states, Graham liberally dipped into the president’s favorite bag of lies for his comments, the only time he’s approached anything liberally.

“I’m going to let everybody in these states know what happens if you put the Democratic Party in charge of this country,” he said. “You’re rewarding mob rule. You’re undercutting the rule of law. Don’t give these people power.”

If Graham wasn’t too busy dissembling on the president’s behalf, he might have noticed that it is Trump himself who is the biggest danger to the rule of law with his multiple convicted campaign aides, his attacks on the FBI and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies, his calls to lock up his political opponents based on his own say-so rather than any judicial findings of criminality, and his pardoning of unrepentant criminals like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, to name just a few of his worst offenses.

Graham continued his litany of campaign falsehoods with even more lies drawn from the Trump playbook of fear-mongering to try to motivate gullible Republicans to vote in the midterms as their majority becomes increasingly threatened by fervent Democratic and independent opposition to the Trump agenda.

“The best thing you can do to make sure [the Kavanaugh confirmation battle] never happens again is punish them for what they were willing to do to this good man,” the senator told Fox News. “Two weeks from Tuesday, we can decide what kind of country you want to be. Do you want to be the country of people who run you up and down the halls [of Congress] and spit on you. Or do you want to be a country of Republicans who can actually deliver for working families out there? Nancy Pelosi will welcome the caravans here,” he concluded. “Donald Trump and the rest of us will stop them.”

Graham is counting on voters not bothering to research the actual facts, including that states run by Republican governments are the poorest on the country, that the Trump administration shackled the FBI from interviewing any of the credible witnesses to Judge Kavanaugh’s misbehavior and perjury, and that his party are the ones doing the most harm to working families through their efforts to blame the massive deficits caused by their billionaire tax cuts on social services like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

Graham’s cynical and shameful lies are business as usual for Republicans who lie, cheat, and steal anyway they can to retain their hold on power. From voter suppression to fear tactics to bold-faced lies, it doesn’t matter to them what tools they use as long as they can stay in office to continue to deliver benefits to their corporate donors.

Don’t believe a word that Senator Graham or any of the other of Trump’s mouthpieces say about the Democratic agenda. Vote blue and get Trump and his enablers out of office as soon as humanly possible. It’s in your hands.
