Trump just went after Beto O’Rourke on Twitter with an absurd smear

Sentient slime creature Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) refused to slink off into the darkness after getting thoroughly and humiliatingly drubbed by Donald Trump during the Republican Primary and is now up for reelection this November.

Running against him is Democratic Representative Beto O’Rourke, an articulate, compassionate man with a real vision for Texas that stands in stark contrast to Cruz’s Diet Trumpian, corporate interest-pandering, healthcare-robbing schemes.

The polls show the contest to be neck-and-neck with roughly three weeks left to go, and O’Rourke’s public support is growing as he starts to build a national profile with some murmurings of an eventual presidential run even starting to bubble up.

Now, Trump is attacking O’Rourke, in an effort to shore up support for the man whose father he previously accused of helping assassinate JFK and whose wife’s appearance he mocked. Cruz, spineless weasel that he is, has welcomed the president’s support, overlooking the personal attacks against his so-called loved ones in the interest of prolonging his own political shelf life.

The president took to Twitter to call O’Rourke a “total lightweight” followed by a peppering of generic (and false) laudatory claims about Cruz. The tweet veered into outright absurdity by the end, with Trump claiming that O’Rourke wants to transform Texas into “Venezuela” the current favored anti-leftist talking point of the GOP.

It hardly needs to be mentioned that O’Rourke’s calls for affordable healthcare have no relation to the failed South American state. It’s a baseless smear on the part of Trump, aimed at inciting fear in voters.

This mid-term could prove to be a generation-defining election for the people of Texas. If Ted Cruz manages to keep his greasy little fingers wrapped around the levers of power, he’ll do nothing meaningful to address the threat of climate change and will continue to siphon off wealth to the top 1%. Texans have an opportunity for real change in Beto O’Rourke and would be wise to throw their full-throated support behind him.
