The head of the pro-Trump Congressional Freedom Caucus just made his final power move against Mueller

Trump’s Tea Party Freedom Caucus cronies in Congress are refusing to give up the fight to get rid of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and put an end to the Mueller investigation that is still hanging like the sword of Damocles over President Trump’s neck.

According to The Hill, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) spent part of his day today railing against the number two Department of Justice official who oversees the Special Counsel’s probe in lieu of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who recused himself from involvement in the investigation after questions over the truthfulness of his testimony concerning his contacts with Russian diplomats were raised during his confirmation hearings.

Rep. Meadows has been among the many Trump toadies — including also the disgraced Ohio State sexual abuse witness Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) — who have been trying to discredit the FBI and the Justice Department over their inquiries into Russian collusion with the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential election.

His comments to reporters today demonstrate that he’ll continue to push for Rosenstein’s ouster as long as the Republicans have a majority in the House of Representatives.

“I think at this particular point, Rod Rosenstein’s priorities are misplaced. His unwillingness to come before Congress and allow us to conduct proper congressional oversight, along with the other information that we’ve learned over the last week or so, would indicate that Rosenstein has not displayed the candor of which would support one’s theory of actually believing that he has been open and honest in all regards,” Meadows told reporters.

“So with that, I think that it’s time that Rod Rosenstein steps down. He should do so immediately and in doing that, I think it would serve the country well, it would serve this president well,” he added.

With the Freedom Caucus continuing to go after Rosenstein despite his denial of the reports that appeared in the media that the deputy AG had considered recording President Trump in order to provide grounds for the invocation of the 25th amendment declaring him unfit to conduct his duties, it’s clear that the extremist right wing Republicans are worried about losing power to the Democrats in the midterms and want to do all that they can to protect Trump while they still wield their majority power.

With Trump’s congressional surrogates pushing his conspiracy-laden Deep State theory as their agenda, it won’t be surprising to see an all out push to end the Mueller investigation before it can reveal any further damaging information about the president and his cabal of criminal campaign aides. All the more reason that the Democrats need to retake the majority in both houses of Congress. Get out and vote!
