Trump just threatened to unleash the military against migrants in unprecedented show of racism

This morning, President Donald Trump horrified the nation when he threatened to use military force to stop a caravan of migrants from entering the United States in a string of disgustingly racist tweets.

A migrant caravan of nearly 4,000 people is making its way to the United States from Honduras, where they are fleeing the horrifying violence and rampant murders that have hauntedthe impoverished nation since Hillary Clinton’s State Department and the CIA backed a military coup that ousted leftist reformer Manuel Zelaya and replaced him with a repressive conservative in Pepe Lobo.

The caravan was organized to keep people safe from predatory coyotes, bandits, and from the severe environment of the Mexican desert. “Thousands of Honduran men and women have died in Mexico. We don’t want any other deaths” says caravan organizer Bartolo Fuentes.

But if Trump has his way, the Mexican desert will be the least of their worries, if his Twitter attacks are anything to be taken seriously:

The repeated smearing of all Hispanic migrants as murderers and drug dealers is nothing new for Trump, who has predicated his entire political career on fearmongering about people of color to rich, white, racists.

But the oncoming migrant caravan and the Trump administration’s efforts to re-launch their child-stealing “family separation” program sets the stage for an unprecedented public display of horrendous cruelty by the United States government against innocent people fleeing the consequences of America’s destructive, selfish foreign policy.

Pepe Lobo’s brutal regime and its militarized security forces — which were funded, armed, and trained by President Obama — regularly murder anyone who dares to speak out, be they farmers protesting the dominance of multinational agribusiness or opposition political figures.

For all of our supposed love of “democracy,” the United States, under both Democrat and Republican presidents, has actively contributed to the entrenchment of murderous right-wing dictators in countless countries across Central and South America only to then weeps and moan in complaint when the people fleeing the instability that we bear responsibility for creating show up on our doorstep.

Even before Trump, the government treated immigrants as chattel. President Obama greenlit the construction of private, for-profit immigration detention centers and allowed corporate prison ghouls to monetize the suffering of the Hispanic migrants.

Is it any wonder that just a few years later, a different President is openly calling for sealing the border and leaving them to die in the desert with barely a squeak of complaint from anybody?

These migrants arguably deserve a life in the United States even more than anyone else does, considering that it was our meddling that made conditions in their home country so dangerous. It is our civic and moral obligation to embrace these people and help them find the safety they seek, and it is beyond disgusting to see the President weaponize their suffering into a partisan beatstick right before the midterms.
