A master of inauthenticity and lies is jealous of the politician who has gained plaudits and climbed steadily higher in the polls exactly because of his authenticity.

Donald Trump Jr. retweeted an article from ABC News that praised Texas Democratic Senatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke for possessing exactly the kind of authenticity that Democrats need on the national level. The president’s son, however, inserted his own sarcastic comments while forwarding the tweet, attacking the charismatic Democrat with an assault on the authenticity of his ethnic identity.

What’s authentic about an Irish guy pretending to be Hispanic? Asking for some friends Texas. https://t.co/c30OjHdN8j

Presumably, the friend in Texas that Trump Jr. is pretending to ask for is Senator Ted Cruz, a native-born Canadian of Cuban ancestry who pretends to be an all-American patriot by refusing to use his given name, Raphael, while selling out his Latino constituents to the Trump immigration squads. Considered by many to be the most disliked Senator in Congress, Cruz is facing a surprisingly tough re-election bid in a state that has leaned Republican for many years.

Beto O’Rourke, on the other hand, goes by the actual nickname he was given as a child growing up in the heavily Hispanic Texas border city of El Paso, actually speaks Spanish, and opposes the elder Trump’s racist immigration policies like the disastrous child separation efforts. Young, intelligent, progressive, and good-looking — all qualities that Cruz lacks — he still trails in the polls but has the closest chance of unseating a Republican candidate for Senate in the state in over two decades.
Being called inauthentic by Donald Trump Jr. should be regarded as a badge of honor by Beto O’Rourke since everyone with any sense knows by now that everything that a Trump family member says is likely a lie. Trump Jr.’s attacks demonstrate how seriously Republicans take O’Rourke’s threat to Cruz’s hold on the Texas Senate seat, and hopefully will incite enough people tired of the insanity of the Trump administration to go to the polls to make O’Rourke the next Senator from Texas. How authentic would that be?
