The Republican Party’s roster is an assorted herd of racists, rapists, ignoramuses, kooks, criminals, and drunks. The more we learn about these people, the more apparent it is that they’re grossly unfit for any kind of elected office. Now, we can add another name to the ignominious, growing list of Republicans who shouldn’t be given one iota of power over their fellow Americans.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Julie McDonald, a Republican judicial candidate, has been caught on video fishing for special treatment after police in Oakland County, Michigan pulled her over for tossing a cigarette out her vehicle’s window and found her to be inebriated.
McDonald, who is running unopposed for a seat on the Oakland County Circuit bench with a 6-year term, was stopped by police at 10:44 A.M. After detecting the smell of “alcoholic intoxicants” inside her vehicle and observing her “watery and bloodshot” eyes” the officers administered a breathalyzer test.

McDonald blew a .102 BAC. The legal limit in Michigan is .08. She admitted that she’d had several alcoholic drinks that night.
“If you had your kids in the car would you be driving right now?” the officer asked.
“No,” McDonald replied.
The police handcuffed her and placed her in the back of their vehicle, at which point the reality of the situation seemed to set in for McDonald.
“I’m running for an office right now. This will f*ck me up really bad,” she said, perhaps fishing for some kind of leniency or warning.
“There’s not a lot of discretion I have with something like this,” the officer replied.
“No, I understand,” McDonald said, backing down.
It’s still unclear how this embarrassing, illegal incident will affect McDonald’s career, but it clearly disqualifies her from sitting on the court. The Chief Judge of Oakland County Circuit Court Shalina Kumar is reportedly looking into the case. “Elected officials are expected to live up to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct,” Kumar said.
It’s bad enough that McDonald ignored the law and drove drunk, but her pointing out that she’s running for office makes matters even worse, and raises the possibility that she might abuse her powers if she were to win her election.
