John McCain’s former right-hand man just leveled Lindsey Graham over Kavanaugh & Trump

Yesterday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford was by any measure a disgusting kabuki performance.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) used his five minutes of time to throw an unhinged tantrum about the hearing, screaming this was “hell” for Kavanaugh, that “you’re supposed to be Bill Cosby when you’re a junior and senior in high school,” and complained that the entire affair was the most unethical thing he’d ever seen in Congress.

It was a horrendous display of partisanship that dispensed with any regard for the woman who just relived one of the most traumatizing moments of her life and hypocritically ignored all consideration for the “process” that he beat the drum for so loudly. It’s obvious that the prospect of a powerful white man being held accountable for his actions was a terrifying existential threat for Graham, which makes one wonder what skeletons he’s hiding in his past.

Republican strategist and former senior adviser to the late Senator John McCain, Steve Schmidt, publicly tore into Graham for his infuriating rant in an interview with MSNBC’s Brian Williams, saying that his former boss’s best friend had become “corrupted” by ambition.

“He’s corrupted by ambition, corrupted by politics. And it’s tragic because this country could use a statesman right now and Lindsey Graham, for a long time, was on a path that he would be that person. That he would be a figure of courage. That he would be a serious person in a frivolous era.”

“And to see him corrupted by Trump era, to see him becoming sycophantic, to see him become dishonest and angry and smearing is just tragic.”

Once a prominent Trump critic over the president’s friendliness with Russia, Graham has become one of his biggest cheerleaders as he publicly salivates over the prospect of potentially replacing his former colleague and partner in racism Attorney General Jeff Sessions and has taken up the mantle of the most prominent MAGA Senator from Orrin Hatch.

While nobody should have actually expected Lindsey Graham to have opposed Kavanaugh or done anything to stop his nomination, his behavior — which included a vague threat to falsely accuse Democratic nominees of sex assault — has been downright appalling and would certainly have infuriated his best friend John if he were still alive today.
