This photo of Trump “rescuing” hurricane victims is going viral but there’s a HUGE problem

To remain a supporter of President Trump this far into his administration one must be willing to engage in a level of denial bordering on committable delusion. The constant onslaught of insider stories detailing an administration in complete disarray, run by a cruel, mentally unstable ignoramus should convince any reasonable person that Trump is deeply unfit for office.

Instead of accepting these credible accounts of their leader’s deteriorating mental state, some Trump supporters are retreating further and further into a fantasy world where Trump is some brilliant Sun Tzu-like mastermind waging an unprecedented campaign of media deception to “Make America Great Again.”

Things are so clearly so terrible that these zealots are forced to argue that the entire mess is some grand charade concocted by Trump to conceal a highly effective leadership style.

As disturbing as this trend is, sometimes it produces an incident so absurd that one can’t help but laugh. Such was the case today when Kevin Roose of The New York Times tweeted about a photoshopped image trending in the right-wing sphere of the internet.

The picture, which has been shared over a quarter of a million times on Facebook, shows President Trump in an inflatable raft reaching out to save a man struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. In it, Trump seems to be either taking or accepting a red MAGA hat from the distressed individual.

In reality, the photograph has been doctored, with Trump edited to replace the rescue personnel who actually performed the heroic action. What’s more, the original image is from the flooding in Texas in 2015, not the more recent flooding from Florence.

It can’t be overstated how truly pathetic it is that Trump supporters are so desperate to convince people that he’s a brave, caring man that they choose to erase the contributions of real disaster responders.

The idea of Trump, a severely unhealthy man, not only wading into the aftermath of a hurricane and surviving it but somehow helping people is patently ridiculous. The only person Donald Trump cares about is Donald Trump and the only disaster zone he’d willingly enter is his own Oval Office.
