Two Republican Reps were just exposed attending a yacht fundraiser with a Holocaust denier

As Trump tightens his stranglehold on the Republican Party, its elected officials continue to sink deeper and deeper into the sludge of unapologetic racism, anti-Semitism, and misogyny. The president has emboldened the GOP to embrace the darkest corners of its collective heart, and the results are terrifying.

Now, the latest example of the putrification of the Party of Lincoln has emerged. Mother Jones reports that two Republican Congressman attended a fundraiser aboard a yacht this summer with an infamous Holocaust denier.

The reps in question, Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Dana Rohrbacher (R-CA) rubbed elbows in July with Chuck Johnson, an internet troll known for making at times controversial, at times outright bigoted remarks. Gaetz is known for his rabid, near incoherent television appearances supporting Trump. Rohrbacher is known for being Vladimir Putin’s favorite member of Congress.

The event was a fundraiser for Gaetz held in Huntington Beach, Rohrbacher’s district. Johnson was Gaetz’s guest at the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. Rohrbacher has met with Johnson in the past as well.

Both men must be held accountable for their association with Johnson. He has in the past disparaged the intelligence of Black Americans in the past, posed with white nationalist Richard Spencer, and denied the fact that over 6 million Jews perished at the hands of Nazi Germany.

“I do not and never have believed the six million figure. I think the Red Cross numbers of 250,000 dead in the camps from typhus are more realistic. I think the Allied bombing of Germany was a ware crime. I agree with David Cole about Auschwitz and the gas chambers not being real,” Johnson said during a Reddit Q&A.

Why any elected official would want to spend so much as a minute in the same room as a man as vile as Johnson is anyone’s guess. The fact that Gaetz and Rohrbacher continue to willingly associate with him would be stunning during normal times and is more than enough reason to vote both of them out of office.
