The Mayor of San Juan just accused the president of trying to cover up his own neglect in fiery response to death toll denial

The Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, fired back at President Trump this morning after he made the appalling and inexplicable decision to accuse Democrats of inflating the horrifying death toll of last year’s Hurricane Maria, which was discovered to have killed nearly 3,000 people after all the dust settled and the destruction cleared away.

Carmen Yulín Cruz rose to prominence after publicly calling out President Trump for neglecting the island of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Maria and was the subject of many a furious Trump tweet for her troubles.

She remains undaunted, however, and took to Twitter this morning to publicly lambaste the President for his Thursday morning tweet, accusing him of denying the death toll in order to cover up for his own neglect and took a brave stand for the people of her island:

The unforgivable, dehumanizing treatment of Hispanics by President Trump during his administration and the implementation of a soft ethnic cleansing regime by the jack-booted thugs in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency make it clear why Trump is choosing the mountain of tragic hurricane victims as his latest hill to die on.

Clearly feeling insecure and vulnerable after the publication of the highly embarrassing stories in Bob Woodward’s upcoming book, he’s chosen to gaslight the nation to deny deaths which he rightfully believes his racist supporters never cared about in the first place so he can protect his reputation.

Mayor Cruz has been a shining example of what honest, passionate politicians truly can be. Never digging into the muck as the unwilling antagonist in another of the president’s shamefully petty feuds, she has remained laser-focused on the most important issue at hand — the well-being of the people of Puerto Rico — and we must take her words to heart.
