The publication of an anonymous op-ed earlier this week by a prominent member of the Trump administration in the New York Times has sent the President spiraling into a fit of paranoia of all those around him as he frets about a potential coup within his own team — and the scheming, ambitious snakes in his administration are using the opportunity to make power moves against their enemies.

A new report in Vanity Fair reveals that the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have seized on Donald Trump’s “punch-drunk” confusion and suspicion to turn their father against their longtime rival for true control in the White House, Chief of Staff John Kelly.
They’ve accused Kelly’s deputy chief of staff, Zachary Fuentes, of being the author of the anonymous op-ed, with Ivanka going as far as to tell her father that Kelly is “destroying your presidency,” reports Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman.

But Trump is reluctant to get rid of Kelly, worried that firing him would just turn him into a bigger headache as a critic on the outside who has a host of embarrassing tales to tell about the chaos inside the White House.

That might change, however, seeing as he’s more isolated and vulnerable than perhaps ever before — which is really saying something. “He’s been hit so hard this week he doesn’t know what to do” said one outside advisor to Vanity Fair. Trump is notorious for being easily influenced by those close to him, and it will be very interesting to see how this palace intrigue plays out.

We can only hope that Jared and Ivanka succeed in pushing Kelly out, as he is one of the last few voices of reason that holds the crew of this sinking ship together.
The president is furious that there are “saboteurs of unelected people are trying to pull off a coup d’etat,” but the stunning revelations of the past week make it clear that has already been a fait accompli for some time now. The seat of power itself is not at stake, merely the ear and the favor of the shambling, decaying puppet that occupies it.
So by all means, Jared and Ivanka, let the president roll himself off the proverbial cliff. It couldn’t happen quickly enough.
