One of the first Congressmen to endorse Trump just got indicted by the feds for stealing campaign funds

The pulsing Gordian Knot of corruption that is the modern Republican Party continues to strangle our democracy in an ever-tightening noose, so whenever one of these unscrupulous kleptocrats gets dragged into the light it’s a cause for celebration. Today offered just such an opportunity.

In the latest, stunning GOP controversy, Representative Duncan D. Hunter of California’s 50th District and his wife Margaret E. Hunter have been indicted for misusing $250,000 of campaign funds for personal use as well as filing false campaign finance records, CNN reports. The numerous charges also include wire fraud and conspiracy.

Hunter ran up hundreds of thousands of dollars on his credit card, spending money on everything from trips to Italy, to dental bills, to bar tabs. CNN adds that the charges which received the brunt of mockery directed at Hunter were expenses used to fly the family’s pet rabbit. An aide claimed the bunny fees were accidentally put on the credit card.

This excerpt from the indictment shows just how shameless the Hunters were with their relentless grift:

The Congressman insisted earlier in the year that he was not personally responsible for the charges. Similarly, his attorneys insisted the charges were purely “inadvertent and unintentional.” That said, the scope and frequency of the illicit charges indicate otherwise.

Hunter was one of the first Congresspersons to endorse Donald Trump, proving that birds of a crooked feather do in fact flock together.

CNN adds that Hunter’s eastern San Diego district, which has voted reliably Republican in the past, could be seized by a Democrat come November meaning that this entire debacle is bad news for not just Hunter, but also the entire Republican Party. Hopefully, his seat is seized during the impending blue wave.
