A Republican just called for the murder of “n*gger” Obama live on C-SPAN

While it’s ceased to be news that the ascension of Donald Trump to the White House has led to a disturbing uptick in white supremacist rhetoric, hate crimes, and general bigotry all across the nation, sometimes an incident occurs that is so racist it breaks through the noise of our increasingly hateful national discourse to stun those of good conscience.

Such was the case when a Republican called into a C-SPAN segment this morning and hurled conspiracy theories and a racial slur at former President Barack Obama. The hosts were left visibly stunned, and C-SPAN quickly cut the line off before moving on to another caller.

Paul Waldman, a writer for The Washington Post, was on the C-SPAN panel and was thus treated to an ugly look at the worst the GOP under Trump has to offer. After the show opened up the Republican line a caller immediately launched into a frothing tirade, claiming that Barack Obama was an “illegal alien.”

C-SPAN  bleeped out the caller’s subsequent comments, but Waldman took to Twitter to share that the man went on to say “Death to the n*gger Obama.”

While it’s utterly disgusting that someone would use such horrific language to describe our first black president, it’s unfortunately not very surprising given the manner in which the president has emboldened closeted bigots to spew their vitriol in public. These racists feel vindicated and are all too happy to share their regressive, idiotic views.

Check out the full segment below. The caller’s hateful comments begin at 16:40.
