After Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to say that the media was not the “enemy of the people” as the President has labeled them time and time again, Acosta had enough and did what he probably should have done a long time ago — turned around and walked the hell out:

I walked out of the end of that briefing because I am totally saddened by what just happened. Sarah Sanders was repeatedly given a chance to say the press is not the enemy and she wouldn't do it. Shameful.

It’s been quite dismaying to see the White House press corps endure day after day after day of abuse and disrespect from an administration that openly demonizes them for political gain and then insults their intelligence by trotting out Huckabee Sanders to spout the most preposterous excuses imaginable for the President’s bizarre and malicious behavior.
One can understand the tough dilemma facing the White House press team: they must attend the briefings in order to do their jobs and report what the official White House positions and responses to the issues that affect this nation; on the other hand, all they get from the White House are shameless lies, threats, and petty humiliations for just doing their jobs.

Acosta has become the president’s favorite media whipping boy, to the point that the president now regularly calls him out by name as part of his obsessive feud with CNN.

Just last week, a White House staffer waiting in the wings quickly moved in to intercept Acosta, literally shouting him down and verbally kicking him out of the scrum of reporters while Trump and the Italian Prime Minister sat and watched in uncomfortable silence.
Ravenous Trump fans harassed and catcalled Acosta as he tried to do his pre-rally coverage for the president’s Monday rally in Tampa, Florida, screaming things like “traitor,” “liar,” and “CNN SUCKS!” at him.
But eventually a straw will break the camel’s back, and Huckabee Sanders’ refusal not once, not twice, but multiple times to say that the media are not the “enemy of the people” was a good a moment as any for Acosta to stop playing these stupid games with these despicable people.
Here's the video. Sarah Sanders is asked multiple times if she believes the media is the enemy of the people. She refuses each time to respond. (via Yahoo) pic.twitter.com/q9jvKSzl3u

Kudos to Mr. Acosta for finally taking a stand and I hope that more reporters will follow in his footsteps. The best way to deal with a bully is to stand up to them; since the Trump administration has already trashed all norms and conceptions of basic protocol, there’s no reason why the press corps shouldn’t do the same.
