Reporters just revealed how the head of EU Commission was forced to baby Trump

President Trump’s proud ignorance, his shaky relationship with the truth and his defiant refusal to actually read his briefings has created a unique set of obstacles for both his aides and for the foreign leaders with whom he must deal with — which has led to some creative if infantile solutions.

The Wall Street Journal has revealed that EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker forced himself to get on Trump’s level and brought some learning aides with him to make sure the President understood what he was saying:

Mr. Juncker grabbed the opportunity to argue that both sides need to refrain from further punitive tariffs or they would foolishly harm themselves.

“If you want to be stupid,” he told Mr. Trump, “I can be stupid, as well.”

Backing up his points, Mr. Juncker flipped through more than a dozen colorful cue cards with simplified explainers, the senior EU official said. Each card had at most three figures about a specific topic, such as trade in cars or standards for medical devices.

The two concluded their meeting with a non-binding verbal agreement to work towards “zero tariffs” that Trump nevertheless has been going around and touting as yet another tremendous success on his part.

It is supremely embarrassing to know that this is what foreign leaders have to stoop to in order to make sure that the President of the United States understands the consequences of his economic policies, which affect millions of people around the world and can upend markets and lives at the drop of a hat.
