Sarah Huckabee Sanders just stunned a room of reporters with shameless defense of Trump’s Russia remarks

Hours after the President defied the entire intelligence community and said that Russia was not planning to interfere in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections, his chief propagandist was quickly trotted out by Trump’s handlers to do some damage control – and she quickly unloaded a centrifuge of spin that left the assembled reporters stunned.

When a journalist pointed out that this was the second time in just three days that the White House has been forced to walk back comments that the President has made about Russia and the cyberwarfare campaign that the government of Vladimir Putin waged against the United States during the 2016 election, Sanders replied with an “alternative facts” level of shamelessness.

“Actually, I’m interpreting what the president was saying. I’m not reversing it.”

What she really means is that “I am here to publicly obfuscate the president’s comments enough that Congressional Republicans can point to my preposterous excuses and justify their own continual support for a president who flagrantly abuses his power, uses the federal government to enrich himself and dabbles in treason on a regular basis.”

The Republican Party has made it clear at this point that there is nothing that Donald Trump could say or do to put a dent in their support for him.

Their billionaire puppetmasters will stop at nothing to push forward their plutocratic agenda by rolling back every worker’s protection ever enacted, gutting the social safety net, and packing the courts with their hand-picked extremists to make sure that progressives can’t ever reverse the damage they’re going to do our institutions and to the well-being of the American people.

They just need a thin enough excuse from the White House to mollify their voters and any pesky reporters who might want comment – and Huckabee Sanders has proven more than willing to give them the hood they need to cover up their true intentions.
