In an entirely predictable but still frustrating turn of events, the President of the United States continued to embarrass himself at the annual summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the military alliance that the President and his Russian puppetmasters are so aggressively hostile towards.
Once again behaving more like a hungover college student than the leader of the free world, Trump showed callous disrespect and made it clear to everyone that he didn’t take the event seriously, showing up late and missing his meetings.
Trump arrived 30 minutes late to today’s NATO summit, missed his scheduled meetings with at least two world leaders, prompted the secretary general to call an emergency session, held an impromptu 35-minute news conference, and is now leaving for the airport go fly to London.

When he finally arrived at the emergency session, Trump blustered about and issued a vague but very ominous threat to the surrounding parties, warning that the United States would “do its own thing” if the assembled nations did not match their military spending levels to those that he requested – about 4% of their GDP.
Afterward, Trump held a press conference in which he proclaimed himself a “very stable genius,” repeated the lie that Pres. Reagan hadn’t won the state of Wisconsin, and announced that America would not be pulling out of NATO and that the rest of the alliance had agreed to his demands, which France’s Emmanuel Macron quickly made clear was absolute nonsense.
Trump is doing with NATO exactly what he did with North Korea a month ago: escalate tension with bellicose rhetoric, than claim to have turned a crisis into a dramatic success by securing major new concessions from the other side, though those concessions do not exist.

While his baying fans will inevitably point to this as yet another of President Trump’s incredible victories that are making the United States respected again, his behavior is absolutely appalling by any reasonable standard – and the fact that this absurd display of masturbatory egotism was the best possible result that we could have hoped for tells you everything you need to know about the United States’ real standing in the world and what kind of a man we have representing us on the global stage.
