Like one of the tough guy characters he has played in movies like Casino and Once Upon A Time In America, actor James Woods has been vocal in his support of President Trump even though it has made him unpopular in mostly liberal Hollywood.
Now Woods agent has chosen the 4th of July to drop him as a client, sending the actor a curt note that said: “It’s the 4th of July and I’m feeling patriotic. I don’t want to represent you anymore. I mean I could go on a rant but you know what I’d say.”
The agent, Ken Kaplan, is a partner in the Gersh Agency, one of Hollywood’s midlevel boutique agencies.

Brash and full of anger Woods posted the note on Twitter with the message: “So this email from my agent (a political liberal) today…”
Woods then followed up with another angry tweet:
My response: “Dear Ken, I don’t actually. I was thinking if you’re feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one’s right to think as an individual. Be that as it may, I want to thank you for all your hard work and devotion on my behalf. Be well.” https://t.co/nEe8OMaWb2

Kaplan’s decision may have been made easier by the reality that Woods once red-hot career has cooled in recent years.
Woods worked steadily in the 1980s and 1900s, earning Academy Award acting nominations for Ghosts Of Mississippi (1997) and Salvador (1986). He also has won three Emmy awards and garnered many other nominations but that is in the past.
Woods’ last major on-screen film role was as part of the ensemble in White House Down (2013), but since then his career has fizzled.
Woods image has not been helped by being attacked as part of the #MeToo movement.
“The 71-year-old actor was accused of ‘predatory behavior’ by Amber Tamblyn in September of 2017,” reported Variety today. “In an open letter, Tamblyn claims Woods tried to pick up her friend when they were 16.”
“At a #MeToo rally last November,” adds Variety, “Elizabeth Perkins accused Woods of harassment holding a sign that named him and read, #MeToo.”
Woods has said he was a Democrat until the impeachment trial of then-President Bill Clinton. Woods said he was disgusted that every major Democrat stood with Clinton.
In 2016, Woods initially supported Carly Fiorina for president but after she lost, he supported Sen Ted Cruz. However, when Trump won the nomination, Woods went all in for the real estate developer turned politician, and has continued to be one of his most vocal supporters.
In the past few years, Woods has been a frequent presence on Twitter – where he has over a million and a half followers – sharing his conservative views.
After the 2016 election, Woods publicly quit Twitter for a while but soon was back, and he has been tweeting regularly ever since.
His defense of Trump in August 2017 was retweeted by the president.
I've never witnessed such hatred for a man who is willing to work for free to make his beloved country a better place. It is pathological.

Even this past week, Woods was taking on one of the many Republicans who has denounced Trump recently.
The Republican Party was already destroyed by burrowing parasites like you. It is in fact being rebuilt by a president who actually loves this nation. Happy Fourth! https://t.co/HuGkFk2exu

Woods can’t be surprised that his over the top conservative views have made him a running joke in Hollywood, and something of a pariah.
At the 2017 Writers Guild Awards, with the top creative talents in Hollywood in the audience, host Patton Oswalt made a joke about not wanted to anger Woods, who was on hand for an appearance that night.
“I want to be very careful of making jokes about (President Trump0,” said Oswalt. “One, because I don’t want to be kicked to death by James Woods backstage.”
When Woods came out he did a back and forth patter with Oswalt.
“By the way, I lost half my Twitter following tonight coming here,” Woods joked.
“Oh, did you?” Oswalt said. “Oh! All those egg avatars gone. That’s terrible!”
Actually, Woods still has lots of Twitter followers. He just doesn’t have a career anymore which is as much the reason he no longer has an agent as his politics.
